Celebrating the Life of

William B. Ewert

1943 - 2001

Over 35 years ago, Bill Ewert had a vision of an organization. It was dedicated to the enhancement of science education in the State of New Hampshire and it would assist the classroom teacher - which in turn would help improve the education of their students. Bill's vision became the New Hampshire Science Teachers Association. Board members came and went over the years but Bill was the organization's constant driving force and mentor. The successful organization that exists today, the New Hampshire Science Teachers Association, with a membership of over 600 science educators, is a tribute to Bill's vision and his continuous leadership over the years as our treasurer.
Bill lost his courageous fight with cancer on October 26, 2001. The Board of Directors will honor Bill's memory by continuing to serve the needs of the science teachers of New Hampshire through this organization. This year will be one of transition for the Board and NHSTA as we take on additional leadership roles and complete a reorganization effort.
In closing, I ask you to keep Bill's wife Mary and their sons in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks to Bill we have an outstanding organization in NHSTA. Through our continued efforts and with your assistance it will continue long into the future.
Thank You,
Greg Thayer, NHSTA President, 2001-2002.

William B. Ewert was a lover of the Arts. This was shown in all that surrounded him in this organization. He was a lover of poetry and particularly enjoyed New Hampshire's Robert Frost. At his Memorial Service, he was surrounded by family, friends, poets, artists, and educators who eulogized him. Poems chosen for the occasion were: "To Earthward," by Robert Frost, "Redwings," by William Heyen, and "Late Fragment," by Raymond Carver.
Bill's daily hustle and bustle through the State Department of Education, through the halls of many schools in New Hampshire, and his presence at many meetings around the state will be missed. Our wonderful friend, mentor, family member, artist, and educator has moved on.
We were honored to celebrate with Bill, family, and friends on March 31, 2001 - the 35th anniversary of NHSTA. We rejoice in all the wonderful memories that we have all had with Bill.
Respectfully,
Christine Yanco, NHSTA Past President
